Description
MOTS-c research peptide
MOTS-c (mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome rather than the nuclear genome. First described in 2015, it belongs to the group of mitochondrial-derived peptides and is studied in cell-based models of metabolic signalling, including the AMPK pathway, and of communication between mitochondria and the nucleus.
Supplied as a lyophilised powder in a 10mg vial. MOTS-c is not a licensed medicine in the UK. We supply it strictly as a research reagent.

Key facts
Quality and testing
Every batch is purity tested by Janoshik, an independent laboratory, using HPLC before it is released for sale. Read more about our process on the Quality & Testing page.
Storage and handling
Store the lyophilised powder at −20 °C, sealed and protected from light and moisture. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to limit condensation. Prepare solutions according to your laboratory’s validated protocols, using appropriate PPE.
Frequently asked questions
What is MOTS-c?
MOTS-c (mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome. It was first described in 2015 and is studied in vitro as a mitochondrial-derived peptide involved in cellular metabolic signalling.
What is the MOTS-c sequence?
The MOTS-c sequence is MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR (Met-Arg-Trp-Gln-Glu-Met-Gly-Tyr-Ile-Phe-Tyr-Pro-Arg-Lys-Leu-Arg). Its molecular formula is C101H152N28O22S2, with a molecular weight of about 2174.6 g/mol.
What purity is your MOTS-c?
Every batch is purity tested by Janoshik, an independent laboratory, using HPLC before it is released for sale.
How should MOTS-c be stored?
Store the lyophilised powder sealed at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening. Stability in solution should be validated within your own laboratory protocol.
Do you ship MOTS-c from the UK?
Yes. Orders placed before 3PM UK time, Monday to Friday, are normally dispatched the same day by Royal Mail Tracked 24. See our Shipping Policy.
Do you provide dosing or usage advice?
No. MOTS-c is supplied for in vitro laboratory research only. We do not provide dosage, administration or medical advice of any kind.
