SS-31 (elamipretide) research peptide
SS-31, also known as elamipretide or MTP-131, is a synthetic tetrapeptide from the Szeto-Schiller (SS) family of mitochondria-targeting peptides. Its alternating aromatic and cationic residues allow it to cross cell membranes and concentrate at the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it binds cardiolipin. In the laboratory it is studied in research on mitochondrial membrane structure, electron transport and reactive oxygen species.
